Malone University
Sets 6th Consecutive Year of Highest Enrollment in
the School’s History
Canton, Ohio. September 18, 2009. For the
sixth consecutive year, Malone University has
set a new all-time high enrollment, raising the bar
still further. The latest record headcount of 2638
total undergraduate and graduate students represents
roughly a 7 ½% increase over last year’s
enrollment. Malone releases its formal announcement
of enrollment figures only after final statistics
are in on the tenth day of classes.
But, according to Brock Schroeder, Ph.D., vice
president for enrollment, the overall increase is
just the beginning. “Our freshman class alone
experienced a 23 ½% increase and the number of
transfer students represents a 38.8% increase over
last year,” he explained. “What’s more, the number
of freshmen qualifying for the Malone honors program
is up 44% over last year. Obviously, we are pleased
with not just the quantity, but also the quality of
students choosing Malone University.” Dr. Schroeder
also noted that, with the increase in enrollment,
the composite ACT score for this year’s freshman
class remains above the national average. Total
growth includes additional students enrolling in
Malone’s traditional college, accelerated degree
completion programs, and graduate programs. What’s
more, the number of residential students increased
by 104, bringing the total to 1105 – a 10 ½%
increase.
When asked about the strength of these numbers,
President Gary Streit observed, “Malone’s mission is
appealing to more learners through the University’s
varied academic programs. What a privilege for
faculty, staff, and administrators to impact more
lives in significant ways through the opportunities
afforded us in Christian higher education.”
The news comes just weeks after Malone University
was informed that it had – for the fifth consecutive
year – been ranked among the top colleges and
universities in the Midwest, under the category
University’s-Master’s – in other words, colleges and
universities that offer master’s degree programs in
addition to traditional baccalaureate programs.
Malone University, a Christian university for the
arts, sciences, and professions in the liberal arts
tradition, affiliated with the Evangelical Friends
Church, awards both undergraduate and graduate
degrees in more than 100 academic programs. Malone
is recognized by the prestigious Templeton
Foundation as a leader in character development and
is ranked among the top colleges and universities in
the Midwest under the category Universities –
Master’s according to U.S.News & World Report’s
America’s Best Colleges 2010.
